Celebrating 100 years of History
Gordon and Durward was founded in 1925 just around the corner in Comrie Street, by Mr Durward and his wife whose maiden name was Gordon. In 1947 they emigrated to South Africa and sold the business to Daisy and George Anderson – known as “Sweetie Geordie”. Their son, John, and his wife Pamela took over the business and ran it until 1998, when he could fully commit to his true loves of Golf and converting old Bentleys.
Graham and Caroline Donaldson moved the business into what had been John Low’s Fishmongers, Poulterers, and Game Dealers. This was another long-established Crieff business with the heritage of the traditional Fishmonger still found on the walls of the shop with a beautiful picture of a salmon on tiles.
Graham recalls as a boy visiting a local farm, and being told as he was handed a sweetie from the farmers fluffy pocket to "spit the first sook oot.” Despite this, a sweet tooth and a love of Scottish sweeties has developed.
Over the last 36 years, Gordon & Durward has steadily expanded into a renowned brand found in the finest retailers across the UK. Despite this growth, the company remains dedicated to tradition, using the same time-honored recipes and techniques perfected over a century to craft their Scottish Butter Tablet, Fudge and Macaroon which are loved across the nations of the UK.
