No 1 Best Sweet Shop in Scotland:
Gordon & Durward, 14 West High St, Crieff

Quaint, old style sweet shop in Crieff and home of the “famous sugar mice”. With enough mixed boilings to melt the nations teeth and a sweet factory in the back where you can gawp for hours at them hand making their sugary offerings. It trumps other sweet shops hands down for the quality of their produce, particularly mouth-watering macaroon, finger-licking fudge and quite possibly the best tablet in Scotland.

Traditional Methods

We only use the very best of Ingredients, and probably just as importantly we still use traditional Copper Boilers. So our Fudge is the way it should be, moist, sweet, buttery, full of flavour, and with that gorgeous texture that only comes from a Copper Boiler! We do try to tell every one that the calories are all removed but no one believes us.

History

Gordon and Durward was started in 1925, the name originating from the founders Mr & Mrs Durward, Mrs Durward having the Maiden name of Gordon. They sold up in 1947 to George and Daisy Anderson, George was known locally as Sweetie Geordie, the business continued under the careful eye of the Anderson’s son John and his wife Pamela until they retired in 1989 and sold to a well known Crieff family the Donaldson’s, of Donaldson’s Garage and Donaldson’s Oil. Graham and Caroline Donaldson have over the past 15 years steadily expanded the business to a point were the brand of Gordon and Durward is to be found all over Scotland and England in the finest retailers. If you would like to retail any of our products please click here for our Wholesale section. Graham recalls as a boy visiting a local farm, and being told as he was handed a sweetie from the farmers fluffy pocket to “spit the first sook oot.” Despite this a sweet tooth and a love of Scottish sweeties has developed.

What is available on the site

Not only are we proud to offer you our extensive range of our own tasty Gordon and Durward confections, but we have gone out and searched for the few remaining Scottish manufacturers who are upholding the great Scottish Tradition of fine confectionery manufacture. You will find names that you may have thought were gone for ever, McCowan’s Highland Toffee, Buchanan’s Boilings like the old favourites of Russian Caramels, Italian Creams, and Toffee Perfections, Ross’s of Edinburgh, world famous for their Edinburgh Rock, Oddfellows, and Pandrops, Duncan’s Chocolate , and lastly Jenny’s of Edinburgh who make some of the nicest Boilings available like Soor Plooms, Lucky Tatties, Rhubarb Rock and many more.
